Pastor Search Transition Team Needs
There will be some rolls to fill during the interim period as we search for our next senior pastor.  Right now the transition team is looking for a female youth group leader.  This person would attend Wednesday evening youth group, play games, be part of a small group and build relationships with the students. We are also looking for a small groups overseer.  This person would oversee small groups, help raise up new small group facilitators, and assemble new groups.  If you are interested in either of these positions please email transitionteam@thebridgereno.com

Kids Kingdom News
I pray all of you enjoyed learning about how Jesus wants us to use our words.  We all need to remember our words can hurt others, or our words can help and show love and kindness to others. Easter is almost here.  We will be doing a short lesson on Easter this week.  Palm Sunday we have a special program planned, as we do for Good Friday.  Easter we will all be in church with our families. We are really getting excited here in the Kingdom. -Miss Terry

Message Notes

Words of Finality

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 19:28–30

Tetelestai:  "It is FINISHED"!

Jesus Earthly Mission Is Over.
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
John 4:34
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.
John 10:17–18
We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!
Matthew 20:18–20
Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
Hebrews  7:27
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45
I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.
John 17:4

Our Eternal Salvation Is Complete.
He Fulfilled God’s Promises
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
Luke 24:44–47

His death (blood) brings my forgiveness.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
Ephesians 1:7
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Hebrews 9:22

His death satisfied the demands of the law.
The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
Romans 8:3–4 NLT

His death paid my debt.
He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
Colossians 2:14
And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
Hebrews 10:18

His death demonstrates His Love for Me.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

It Is Finished; But It’s Not Over.
Again, Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.
John 20:21

Small Groups Talk About It

Discussion Questions
  1. Are you a more of a “starter” or a “finisher”?
  2. Last words of Jesus: Father forgive them.  Today you will be with me in Paradise. Mother, here is you Son; Son here is your Mother.  My God, My God Why have You forsaken me? I thirst.  Share which of these statements holds more meaning to you.
  3. Read John 4:24, John 10:17-18 and Mark 10:45.  What was Jesus’ mission on earth? How was it finished on the cross?
  4. Read Luke 24:44-47.  Discuss the some of the promises Jesus fulfilled by going to the cross.
  5. Read Romans 8:3-4. Why do we work so hard to prove we are good? Why do we fail in keeping the law?  How did Jesus fulfill the law when we could not?
  6. Since God’s justice demands that lawbreakers be punished and none of us can keep the law, do you believe God can forgive your worst sin? Why or why not? Why is obedience important as a follower of Jesus?
  7. Read Colossians 2:14.  How did we become indebted to God?  If Jesus has paid our debt in full, why do we sometimes act as if we have to still pay it?
  8. Read Romans 8:1. Discuss what it means to be condemned.  What does it mean that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus? How hard is it for you to believe or not believe this?
  9. Read John 20:21.  What about Jesus mission is finished and what is still left to be done?
