Our Christmas Celebration was a huge success.  Thank you to all those who volunteered .  We all help make memories.  This Sunday is our Christmas Shilling Store.  Everyone will be buying gifts for someone else.  This time we do not shop for ourselves,  Christmas Eve the children will be singing on stage.  We will sing Silent Night During the candle lighting.  Of course our candles will be battery operated.  Please let me know if you will be here for both services or just one.  Have a great rest of your week. – Ms. Terry

Message Notes

Joseph, God With Us  in Our Confusion

Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel, which means God With Us!
Isaiah 7:14
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
Matthew 1:18–25

Joseph’s Confusion
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 1:18
Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
Matthew 1:19
Scott McKnight a NT scholar talks about this in his book the Jesus Creed. “
Being known as a "righteous man" meant you were admired and looked up to. That you were someone who mattered, someone others wanted to be like. Joseph wanted to not only know but also follow God's law.  He would never be involved sexually with Mary before marriage and never treat her wrongly in any way.  He was committed to doing things right.  He was tsaddiyq. a righteous man”

Joseph’s Courage
Matthew 1:20–25
