Wisdom: Address Your Anger

Pastor Bill West
July 10, 2022

Truths to Consider…
  • You always lose when you lose your temper.
  • No one or nothing can make you mad; you actually choose to get mad.
  • Being angry is not a sin, being uncontrolled with your anger is.
  • You can learn how to control your response to the anger in your life.

Recognize Your Anger
He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.
Proverbs 16:32

A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.
Proverbs 19:19

If you cannot control your anger, you are as helpless as a city without walls, open to attack. (
Proverbs 25:28 GNT

Reflect on why you are angry
A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly.
Proverbs 14:29

Don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.
Psalm 4:4 NLT

Don’t hang out with angry people; don’t keep company with hotheads. Bad temper is contagious, don’t get infected.
Proverbs 22:24-25

Resolve your anger appropriately.
A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense. A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
Proverbs 19:11–12

A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.
Proverbs 17:27

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.
Proverbs 29:11

Replace your anger with God’s peace.
A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly. A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
Proverbs 14:29–30
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

Bottom Line: Address Your Anger, Because it Affects Your Life.
