Kinds Kingdom News
Another Great Shiling Sunday.  Parents, there are many ways your child can earn extra shillings to use at the store, see me for details.  I would like to have everyone in our book of Kings and Queens.  Memorizing bible verses, knowing the names of the books of the bible in the Old/New Testament are just a few of the ways we can make this happen.  I would be great to see everyone's name there. Kids Kamp will be July 8-12, 2024, 5:00-8:30 PM. We will need many volunteers to make this happen.  You can see me or email me at kidskingdom@thebridgereno.com for more details. We have almost finished our unit on "God's Word is God's Story.  This has been a very enlightening study. Hope to see everyone on Sunday in the Kingdom. -Miss Terry

Message Notes

The Bread of Life Part 2

Today’s Scripture: John 6:41-57
Context is critical in Bible study.  Context keeps us from conning the text.
Context of John 6:41-57:
  • Jesus had just finished a miracle feeding of several thousand people from 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread.
  • Hundreds, possibly of thousands of people following Jesus looking to again take part in a miracle and being fed.
  • Jesus will start to lead the teaching away from the physical needs of their body and into the spiritual needs of their soul.
  • Jesus claims to be God.
  • Because of their hard-hardheartedness the people started to grumble about Jesus.

Grumble definition: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When we complain we should complain _______________ (to God) and not _________________ (to the world).
We are drawn by God but we also have to choose to answer the call!
The Jewish people were confused about Jesus in part because they didn’t understand the fulfillment of prophesy from the OT:

Isaiah 54:13-14
13 All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.
14 In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed;
it will not come near you.
God does not just work in the “old ways”!  We often prefer to stay comfortable.
Does something in your church cause you anxiety? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Are you willing to let God use you to fill that void that is causing you anxiety?
Jesus said “I am the bread of life” (verse 48) and the people could not stomach it!  It was something that was extraordinarily different than what they were used to.
Reaching out to someone about Jesus can be very uncomfortable.
Is there anyone God is putting on your heart to reach out to about Jesus? _______________________________________ (their initials).
In verse 51 Jesus tells the people “I am the living bread that came down from Heaven” (Ref. Pastor Phil’s previous notes on the “I am” statements).  He is now making statements that will cause many to turn away from Him.
Often people will have a calloused attitude to hearing about God.
Verse 56 may be one of the most difficult verses in the Bible.  When we focus on the physical, we can’t understand the spiritual teachings.  Jesus is pointing out this focus to the group listening to Him.
Flesh and blood are symbolic of ___________________________________________.
God knows our physical needs but His primary focus is our spiritual need for Him:

Matthew 6:33-34
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
The 3 parts of every person (1 Thessalonians 5:23) are ________________________, ____________________ and __________________________.
We have to feed our Spirit!

Hebrews 5:13-14
13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
How would you rate your spiritual diet of Gods Word? _____________________________

Small Groups Talk About It

Discussion Questions
  1. If you had to summarize the whole sermon in a sentence, how would you summarize it?What is the context of John 6?

  2. Read John 6:41-44. What is Jesus talking about when He references “the bread that came down from heaven”? What are the people grumbling about in verse 41?

  3. Verse 44 says that, “no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them”.  Does this mean that God picks us and there is no responsibility on our part? Why or why not? Are there any other scriptures you can reference to support your answer?

  4. Read John 6:45-47. What are some scriptures in the old testament that would have made it possibly difficult to understand that Jesus is the Messiah?

  5. What are some reasons people are confused about Jesus today?

  6. How did people deal with their sin in the old testament? What specifically pays for sin in the new testament ?

  7. Why do you think Jesus tells them in  verse 46 that “only he has seen the father”?

  8. How do we go to heaven?  How did people go to heaven before Jesus?

  9. Read John 6:48-55. How is this bread eaten? Can these verses be taken literally? Why or why not?

  10.  Has God put it on your heart to help out in the church?  Please pray that God will give you the courage to step forward and help out. Remember there is nothing small in God’s Kingdom!
