Community Thanksgiving Needs

Dear Church Family,

What a wild ride we have been on the past 8 months. We have gone from normal church activities, to no activity, now to a place where our activities are limited to help reduce the spread of the covid-19 virus. As a small and young church, we have already been through a lot, and I believe there is more to come. And all that’s ok because we know that our God is in charge and always has been.

We are entering the time of year that Americans love, the Holiday Season. But this year it is vastly different than any previous year. As a church, our response has been one of caution, and one of assistance to those who need it. As you know, this time of year we see an increase in requests for help. In the past we have helped many families with Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, Christmas presents, and anything else that was needed. We helped renovate the teacher’s lounge at Alyce Taylor, and we also raised money to renovate our own building and we almost finished it only being paused by covid-19. Even with all that, as a church we still stand ready to further the Gospel and show our community the love of Jesus by our actions.

As you would expect we have once again been called upon by two of our local schools. There are some families in our community that need help with meals for Thanksgiving. Marisza had been heading this up but when she got sick, she was not able to be at church last Sunday, Nov 15 to fill you all in on the details. I too am under quarantine because one of my sons contracted the virus. Marisza did test positive for covid-19 and will, of course, be isolated at home for the next 10-14 days. She was able to get me the needed details so we can continue to move forward and help these families in need this year.

Below is what the schools are asking for.

Alyce Taylor-

Family #1 (6 people): turkey, canned vegetables, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, gravy mix/jar, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix, pie, rolls, sweet potatoes.

Family #2 (6 people):  turkey, canned vegetables, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, gravy mix/jar, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix, pie, rolls, sweet potatoes.

Spanish Springs Elementary-

Family #1 (7 people): turkey, sweet potatoes, rolls, pie, gravy, cranberry sauce

Family #2 (5 people):  turkey, sweet potatoes, rolls, pie, gravy, cranberry sauce

Family #3 (4 people):  sweet potatoes, rolls, pie, gravy, cranberry sauce

This coming Sunday, Nov 22 is when we are asking for the food to be brought to the church. We will deliver on Monday morning to the schools. They will make sure the families get what they need.

There are a few different ways you can help:

  1. Donate the needed food. You can buy the entire meal, or parts of the meal.
  2. Help deliver to the schools on Monday, November 23rd in the morning.
  3. Continue to pray for our community, families, schools, teachers, etc.… especially as we get into the holiday season.

If you would like to help or have questions, please call or text Darin at 775 830 8455.

Thank you so much for always being ready to help with needs when they come up. When we started this church almost three years ago one of our goals was to make sure that people knew we are a church that loves people. Our hope was that we would get to a point that people knew they could reach out to us when they needed help of any kind. And they do! That’s because of you, that’s because each time we are contacted about a need, you go above and beyond the request.

Jesus taught us that we really have two main jobs while we are here on earth. The first job is to love God. And the second, is to love people. And when we love people, we love God. When we love God, we want to help people. It’s a beautiful cycle that I know will continue for years to come.

Thanks!

In Him,

Darin
